| Solubility | Slightly soluble in water, the aqueous solution appears bluish-red. Soluble in ethanol (reddish brown), insoluble in other organic solvents. In the case of concentrated sulfuric acid, it becomes reddish purple, and then becomes olive brown after dilution. In the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, it becomes brown and soon becomes yellow-light brown. Its aqueous solution and hydrochloric acid were added to produce dark brown precipitate. The addition of sodium hydroxide solution produces a deep red precipitate. |
